Yes DBL , endorsement is meaningless when the "training" is a file of Ebay seller basics ,outdated long before it even reaches you, and attained by answering very simple multiple choice questions.

We would have much preferred a course where extensive policy , law and site knowledge had been part of the deal. For one thing it would have saved many hours of producing our own material.
As i said , still not convinced endorsement would be beneficial , but would welcome the opportunity to find out...

Good points Fozz.

Endorsement is beneficial if it means something. The Education Specialist program was an online exam to train us to do powerpoint presentations on the basics of eBay Selling. It did not mean the person was familiar with eBay policy, UK & EC Law or even the in and outs of the UK site.

An eBay endorsed trainer should have lots of eBay experience and a proven thorough knowledge of the above and be able to provide answers to questions accordingly.

There are Ed Spec's only sold enough to get into the program and then sold get rich quick scheme's under the same logo as those like you Fozz who were experienced. I do know of others giving advice to classes that was contrary to UK Law.

eBay should be working with business organisations to make sure good and up to date training is available and monitored. IMHO

Last year we presented a series of courses for business link , and the biggest issue we had with BL was that they required a 2 hour course to encompass ebay topics suitable for a very diversified range of delegates. Some had never used the internet, others were established Powersellers and Ebay Shop owners.
One thing i would stress is that any course (endorsed or not) needs to be in different levels or modules, ebay 2010 is a massive subject.

As a former Education Specialist trained by Ebay , i am still not convinced that endorsement is beneficial. Including "trained by ebay" in literature indicates that you are giving the ebay corporate message , and that isn't necessarily a sellers requirement.

Just had a look at MyHermes site, and not only are ceramics and glass uninsurable as with other couriers, they are specifically excluded :((

No, not bad experience, but we generally supply china and glass, and finding couriers prepared to insure these is not easy. Also most of our packages are small and so couriers are not cost effective for these, although the prices are keener for the larger packages. And I dont like the aggro of having to be in when they call, the extra paperwork, that kind of thing..

I guess we have our RM postage down to a smooth habit, and like a lot of habits, we just can't be bothered to change. But you are right, we SHOULD look at other alternatives from time to time.

well, I have to say that I just can't be bothered with couriers usually, much easier to take stuff to the po at our own convenience than stay in and wait for a courier. Likewise at the other end, my customers seem happier to receive via RM than courier, but I am here to be persuaded differently...

I watched the story with interest on our local news station must have been a wonderful trip down memory lane for you all. My Uncle recently lived on the coast at Quincy MA and now lives in Cape Cod. I'm not sure where he lived in the diner days but he used to go into the diner on the way back from playing Gaelic Football.

I know Trish & Geoff quite well as explained in the blog post, it's great to have such a unique and historical piece of US history in Church Gresley. They used to make the TG Green Cornish blue Pottery5 minutes walk away from the diner too, I know this is very popular on eBay in the US.

Thank you for taking the time to write, I'll let Trish and Geoff know you've responded :)
